I chose to do my project on Patsy Cline, her role in country music and her amazing legacy that she had. Patsy Cline started off her career by herself and directing her career. Patsy Cline would play in juke joints that were in the Winchester area and also perform in nightclubs. While performing on smaller stages she was also appearing in amateur musicals, talent shows and the local radio stations.
In the 1950's Patsy Cline was making roads in the country music field. She went on a multiple of country shows and broadcasts proving herself as a future country star. September 1954 Patsy Cline got her first recording contract. The contract didn't end up working out and falling through. So instead Patsy Cline partnered with Owen Bradley who become her guiding person during her recording career. Later in 1958 Patsy Cline signed with Decca and Bradley and started their lead into her being the leading exponent of the Emergent Nashville Sound.
Music Hits
Patsy Cline's first musical hit was "Walkin After Midnight" it was #2 on the country charts and it was #12 on the pop chart. This song was Patsy Cline's national TV debut on "Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts" on January 21, 1957.
The song just shows the talent that Patsy Cline had and the world was starting to realized her talent and potential in the country music field. For the next year after her performance she was doing personal appearances and performing on different shows
The next song that I chose was the song "Crazy" written in 1961. "Crazy" to me was one of her most popular songs. It was the song that I grew up listening to every night before going to bed.
When listening to "Crazy" it gives off a jazz and country music type of vibe. This song shows the different talents that she has of her voice and how she can sing different genres successfully.
Role of Patsy Cline:
Patsy Cline's career started of slow and small but as time went on she became more known in the music field. She became so well known that she started to perform with big country music stars. Some of the stars being Willie Nelson, who she actually sang "Crazy" with. In 1962 she had the opportunity to perform with Johnny Cash and hitting #1 spot on the country charts by singing "She's Got You". Patsy Cline was also able to perform with June Carter and George Jones. March 5, 1963 she died in a plane crash on the way to Camden Tennessee. In 1973 Patsy Cline was inducted in the Country Music Hall of Fame and was considered one of the country music's greatest hits.
My Opinion:
I grew up listening to Patsy Cline because of my dad, but after this assignment I forgot how much I like her music. Patsy Cline's music is a little bit older and has a different style then music now days. But that is what makes it so great. The timeless feel that you get when you listen to her music. Patsy Cline left with a legacy and her music is still enjoyed by her fans today.
Hello, Mackenzie. Overall, I enjoyed reading your blog post, and it seems you put a lot of thought into it. It is formatted nicely and has a good aesthetic. I agree with what you're saying throughout this blog, especially when you discuss how good older country music is to listen to. If you were interested in a semi-new country artist with an old-time feeling, I would recommend Colter Wall. I enjoyed listening to these songs and will need to listen to more of this singer's work. Good Job!
Hey Mackenzie. I listened to country music growing up, but I have no recollection of ever hearing any of her music. The only time I had heard of her was from a line in another country song I really enjoy. That being said, however, I really enjoyed her music and something in it pulled at my heartstrings. I made me remember being 6 years old and singing along with the music in my dad's truck. I agree with what you said about her music and its impressive how she built her career from the ground up.
Hi Mackenzie. Nice job, I really enjoyed your blog post. I have never heard of Patsy Cline, but wow, is her music really nice, I like how you chose her to do your blog post on! I agree with your opinion, too; even though it's older, it still is pleasant to hear. One thing I am still interested in is her family life? What made her want to begin doing music? Was she around other family performers, or did she have this dream as a girl?
